Kusina Felicitas at Grandpa's Inn Review

Vigan has a very rich Spanish cultural history that people who visit this beautiful place often get off-guard whenever they see how fantastically well-kept and restored the place is. According to its website vigan.ph, this town was recognized as the religious center of Northern Luzon in the year 1595 because of its wealth, including a thriving political epicenter.

Through the help of the business of Filipino-Chinese inhabitants and agricultural knowledge of the mestizos, Vigan continued to blossom and soon, it was able to support the revolutionary hence thwarting the Spaniards by 1896.

Besides its beautiful history, cuisine is also one of its well-kept secrets. Kusina Felicitas is the signature restaurant of Grandpa's Inn located in the fame Calle Crisologo. According to its website, the dining hall still stands with the original bricks dating way back in the 18th century. This well-known restaurant serves authentic Vigan and Ilocano dishes like the bagnet, pinakbet, and the famous longganisa.

When we arrived at Vigan, our initial plan was to eat breakfast at Cafe Uno. Unfortunately, the cafe was still closed hence we opted to eat the nearest restaurant and that is Kusina Felicitas. As it turned out, the two are sister companies under Grandpa's Inn.

The Interior

The place was homey and cozy. It reminded me of my old grandmother's house back in San Mateo, with the big portraits and antiques, not to mention the windows and the wall. It will definitely take you back in time and you'd wonder why the world stopped being as such.

The Food

The restaurant offered set breakfast meals with soup and coffee or hot tea, all for the affordable price of PHP100. It also has kiddie meals like pancakes, cereals (which Z chose - a mixture of Milo Puffs and Corn Flakes), and French toast. Foodie tip: go for the Vigan longganisa meal and upgrade your coffee to brewed for only an additional PHP50.

The Staff

Our server was very attentive and made sure that we had a great breakfast. He patiently listened to the requests of my sister, husband, and mother. He never showed any sign of annoyance and for that, I am giving him two thumbs up. It is unfortunate that I forgot his name --- not sure if it's Richard or Ren.

The Overall Review

I was satisfied with the ambiance and the service though I was hoping to have a few more servings of longganisa instead of three tiny pieces. I also expected my coffee to be stronger but I guess, that was asking too much. But I will recommend Kusina Felicitas to anyone who'd stop over at Vigan for any meal. We paid PHP 1,200 for 11 adults and Z.
