So instead of letting them fight over who will be best to lead the country, I have decided to list down everything I can find about Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and Mar Roxas.
DISCLAIMER: Whatever you will read from here on are based on unbiased information gathered through the help of social media, Google, and official websites. I am in no way paid to advertise these candidates. I am just a concerned Filipino, like you, who dreams of living in a better country. Thank you.
Mayor Rodrigo Duterte
Based on Digong's Wikipedia, he started his political career as the Vice Mayor of Davao City from 1986-1987, became Mayor of Davao City from 1988-1998, became a Member of the House of Representatives from 1998-2001, re-elected as Mayor of Davao City from 2001-2010, then finally served Vice Mayor of Davao City from 2010-2013 before his daughter took over.
He was nicknamed "The Punisher" due to his zero tolerance against criminals. In his 22 years of service, Davao City became known as the "fourth safest cities in the world".
The highly controversial politician has received several flak before and during his Presidency campaign due to his below-the-belt remarks, jokes and profanities. However, these flaws did not stop him from topping the latest Pulse Asia presidential survey.
According to CNN Philippines, this is Digong's Platform for Government:
Mar RoxasDuterte: Fight vs. crime and corruption
And what are the top priorities of Rodrigo Duterte's platform of government?"Our top three would be 24/7 fight against crime and corruption, which is the core of Mayor Duterte's and Senator's Cayetano's campaign. Second we promote the development of our economy by tying this up with our advocacy on federalism, which is regional development," said Duterte's spokesman Peter Laviña."The last is we should have equality before the law and give equal opportunities for everyone."He added that Duterte wants to push for the proper implementation of laws."Kaya yung sinasabi niyang fight against crime, drugs and corruption may pinagmulan yun. Exhibit A ang Davao."
According to his official website, Mar's life as a public servant began in 1993, when his younger brother Dinggoy, a Congressman for the 1st District of Capiz, died of cancer. He took over and was elected as a Member of the House of Representatives for the same place from 1993-2001.
He authored "The Fair Education Act" which later on, was passed as a law. This helped provide an unbiased distribution of education budget among all districts, not just based on the "palakasan" system. He was also recognized by the World Economic Forum (WEF) in 1996 as one of the "Global Leaders of Tomorrow."
Mar became DILG Secretary from 2000-2003 where he "fathered" the BPO-IT industry, a highly controversial statement according to BPO pioneers.
According to CNN Philippines, this is Mar's Platform for Government:
As I read through the many information provided about Digong and Mar, I am suddenly realizing that I still need to dig deeper before I cast my vote. I am in awe of how BOTH men have served the country, ashamed of myself that I did not even dare to do this before letting anger reign in my heart.Roxas: Three freedoms
For administration bet Manuel "Mar" Roxas II, the priority is to continue the "Daang Matuwid."Akbayan party-list Rep. Barry Guiterrez, spokesman of the Daang Matuwid Coalition, said it is the principle that underlies Roxas' entire platform."Anybody can talk about what they will do. But at the end of the day, who can you really trust to implement what they will do. Over the past five and a half years, that's what we think has been the biggest achievement of the Aquino administration — it has restored trust in the government," said Guiterrez."More than anything else, we all have our programs, we all have our plans, but it is a question ultimately of the integrity of the candidate, trusting the candidate that when he or she assumes office, he or she will not betray the trust of the people."Guiterrez, however, said that the heart of Roxas' campaign is banked on "three freedoms.""First is the freedom of hunger, and that is essentially concerned with job generation particularly in the agriculture sector. He talks about foreign investments in manufacturing and bigger government investments in infrastructure for the agricultural sector," he said."[There is the] freedom from fear — talking about safety nets on health issues and peace and order, improve policing. And the freedom to dream which goes towards in improving the capacity of individual citizens and families to actually aspire for their dreams, such as expanding the K-12 and CCT [conditional cash transfer] programs."
I am still not sure of who my president is but I know that I am on the right path. I am taking a stand into making a good change for the country and should my presidential bet lose, I will make sure to support whoever will win.
As for my Vice President, that's another story but for now, my heart is set at Leni Robredo. The question is, will my president be the perfect pair for her? I think YES.
